Here in Australia, it’s about to be the day that we celebrate our Aussie-ness. Yes, January 26 is Australia Day and there will be much barbequing, drinking of beverages, playing beach cricket and generally relaxing (at least for those people not currently trying to finish a book draft).
To celebrate, the cool gals at Bookdout and Confessions from Romaholics have organised much goodness in the
Book giveaways. Aussie writers. What can be better?
So to celebrate both, I’m offering a copy of either Shadow Kin or Blood Kin (winner’s choice) for one prize and one copy of a book by my fab friend Keri Arthur (from either the Riley or Risa series – winner’s choice). Keri was just voted #18 in Booktopia’s Australia’s Favourite Novelist. She rocks!
Enries are open to everyone. Â If you’re an international entrant, I’ll send you the book via Amazon. I can send e-copies if they’re available to wherever you are. Aussies will get signed paper books (hey, it is Australia Day!)
To enter, just leave me a comment….Aussies tell me a fave thing about Australia…everyone else, tell me something you know about Australia. Entries close at midnight on Monday January 28 2013 (Australian EDST). I’ll draw the winners of February 4th.
Be sure to check out the rest of the bloghop, details can be found on Bookdout.
What do I know about Australia? Koala Bears, kangaroos, platypus & the great barrier reef!
I love the mild weather, it’s never gets too cold for me to handle and the summers are bearable thanks to the beaches which cancels out the sweltering heat. This land is truly magnificent and I’m so blessed I live here.
Thank you for the wonderful giveaway, happy Australia day! 🙂
I love the diversity of our Australian landscape, the wide open space the we take for granted and our weird and unique wildlife.
I love that Aussies prefer to support the underdog, can ‘hang s@#t’ on a mate without offending and how we so easily laugh at ourselves. I love that nicknames are almost mandatory, that sport is almost a religion and that a ‘slab’ is considered legal tender.
Thanks so much for the giveaway!
Something I love about Australia? I am going to say the beaches. While the ones I live near aren;t that great, there are plenty of other beautiful beaches around the country if you get a chance to see them. Sand between the toes, wet feet – bliss!
Happy Australia Day! Thanks for making the giveaway open to interantional entrants too. I’m so excited for Australia Day because we could contact from Skype my relatives there. I just miss them so much! 🙂
It’s going to sound weird, especially since I don’t actually live there persee, but some of my fave features of Australia have to do with the country – as in the outback. I’ve gone on many holidays and visted family in rural areas and theres just something about the towns, and the people and the atmosphere that is just so inviting, and I dunno… unique? The clean air, the stars, the wide open space… the possibilites are endless and its always so beautiful. The hidden gems that you find and the stories that you hear and the people you get to know if you take the time to talk to people is just amazing. So maybe its the people I like the most? The people that you get to meet when you travel around our vast country. Every part is different, and so are the people. Just a few things I love about Aus anyway.
My favourite thing about Australia is our wonderful beaches, amazing native flowers and interesting and unique native animals.
Happy Australia Day.
The People of course , it what makes Australia unique because we are friendly brunch. I wasn’t lucky to born in this country but I have lived here more years than my birth country, got a citizenship and it always something that stood out the general friendliness .
Oh and I forgot to add Thanks for taking part in the Australian Day Hop
Thanks for the good idea : )
Great giveaway – I loved Keri Arthur’s Riley Jensen series and Shadow Kin is on my wishlist!
There is lots to love about Australia – a varied landscape, a great standard of living and great people!
Happy Australia day!
What do I know.. a little bit of geography and history, but I do love the nature and animals and many people from Australia are very nice and talented 🙂

Loving all these! Thanks for entering!
I love the multiculturalism.
Right now I must say it’s NOT the weather. Cyclone Oswald is causing havoc here.
Which brings me to the best thing. Australians step up in times of crisis & just pitch in. It makes me very proud.

I love the the weather, the mateship, the self-deprecating humour. I love that most of the arguments about women’s rights are won (South Australia, where I’m from, was the first state to give women the vote) and that we have decent gun laws and our children don’t get blown to smithereens when they go to school. We don’t have all the amendments in the Constitution that the US does or the Bill of Rights, but in many many ways (alas not marriage equality yet but that will come soon) we are more the “land of the free” than the land of the free is.
Happy Australia Day! 🙂

I am not an Australian, but I do wish I could visit there. I love the unique animals that you have there like kangaroos, koalas, and the plataypus. The Outback and the Great Barrier Reef are unbelieveable. Thank you Australia for being so unique.
What I know about Australia? Being from the USA it’s winter here and right now you’re having your summer. I’m a big fan of both series!
What a gorgeous idea! I’m a Melbournian, so I have to say, one of my favourite things about Australia is our crazy weather. I also love the fact that we come from all over the world – if I’m out and about just in my local area, I hear about five languages spoken that aren’t English, everyone dresses in different styles, so no one ‘look’ really fits in (and there is the most amazing and gorgeous range of hijab worn in these parts – I love the vivid colours worn by the African women on my tram), not to mention you can buy just about any ingredient you could ever want for middle eastern or indian cooking…
We’re very lucky to live here.
Thanks so much for the giveaway (especially *squeee* the signed books for us Aussies)! I think my favourite thing about Australia is the mostly laid back culture, like I LOVE that a singlet, shorts and thongs it totally appropriate outdoor wear no matter what. And I really love Sydney (yeah I’m a Sydneysider) especially the cute terrace houses that cost millions of dollars in the city.

I love the road trips that on paper looks boring (e.g. Cobar to Broken Hill) but in reality is full of interesting things to see. Trees decorated with shoes, goats everywhere.
My fave thing about Australia is the variety. The weather can change day-to-day, travel 100km and the landscape changes, the people are all amazingly different. And the politicians, well, actually, they’re all the same. But nonetheless, my point remains. Variety! It’s what we are 🙂
I love the beautiful landscape. It seemed so vast and dessert like. From the descriptions I have read about there are sheep ranches that I want to visit. Happy Australia Day!
What’s not to love about my outback home? People who are genuine in their mateship, give a damn about eachother and know how to relax and soak up the sunshine. A beautiful landscape wherever I go, culinary delights, cultural icons, pub lunch and music sessions on a Sunday…the list is endless and diverse. There’s so much to love about this grand island of ours!
What I know is that koala bears are super cute, the Sidney Opera House is supposed to be amazing and the didgeridoo is really hard to play but those that can make it sound great.

They have the Sydney Opera House.
Thanks for the giveaway.

Thank you very much! I`m in love with this giveaway! 🙂 I`m from Europe and I`m non-native English speaker; there is not a very big choice of books in English here (except online shops) and they`re usually from American and British writers so this is a very beautiful opportunity to get to know the Australian writers 🙂
Thanks!
When I hear/read name Australia the things that come to my mind are Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, platypus, echidna, kangaroo, koala, wombat, emu and of course Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, Heath Ledger, Cate Blanchett. I remember that back at the good old school days Australia was my favorite continent/country to learn about on geography lessons! 🙂
Snowy greetings from Latvia,

P.S. just wanted to advise you to use Fishpond (or BookDepo) when sending the book to a foreign reader since shipping is free otherwise Amazon will make you pay a ridiculous amount of money just for the shipping.
The weather and the beautiful land. Thanks for the chance to win!

Our unique animals and natural attractions some of the most beautiful in the world.
The Australian spirit, mateship, and ingenuity has seen us rise above many situations, and come out better for the experience.
What I love about Australia is it has every climate so you can live in the tropics, dessert or snowy mountains. You don’t have to leave Australia for a holiday because we have everything right here.
Hi,
What I love about Australia is that one day we are in a drought and the next day we get so much rain the roads go under. We have not had cyclone winds for over 25 years and then it come out of nowhere. At least rain will help with the bush fire in NSW and I hope Victoria as it moves down. You never know what will happen next in this great southern land of ours.
